Welcome to Students of Southard Combat System, Reality Based Self Defense.

Grandmaster Tony Southard is a lifelong practitioner of martial arts. The list of certifications and qualifications is impressive to say the least. Tony was an undefeated professional kickboxer, and has bodyguarded for high profile clients such as Donny Osmond.

After studying many forms of martial arts, GM Southard could see dangerous  inherent flaws in the classical way of thinking/training. He felt  these  misconceptions were in actuality setting students up to be hurt or killed in real self defense situations. Thus he embarked upon a path to develop a reality based, personal combat method infused with violent and brutal effectiveness – the kind necessary for real world personal protection. He was successful.

For over 15 years GM Southard has been teaching his Southard Combat System. His list of clients has included (but not limited to) private citizens,  police departments, many branches of America’s armed Forces, and municipal organizations. But don’t take our word for it, with Tony seeing is believing.

In 2007, GM Southard was introduced to South Eastern Idaho by long time self defense instructor  Master Brian Eckman, of Eckman Self Defense. (Rexburg, ID).

In 2008 GM Southard was again brought to Idaho by Master Eckman , where Tony made contact with  instructor Destry Wolbert, who in turn established Students of Southard Combat System.

In January 2009, Pocatello will have a unique opportunity to learn directly from Grand Master Tony Southard,  during a three day  long personal combat conference of Southard training. Courses offered will include power punches and kicking, gun/knife disarming, tactical pen fighting, Level 1 and Level 2 certification, women’s self defense and pressure point striking and controls.
